Successfull 1st GMM for Corinthian Architects

July 26, 2012 was a special day for Corinthian Architects when more than 90 members attended the 1st General Membership Meeting to witness the Induction of Officers and New Members at the Bayleaf Hotel in Intramuros, Manila.

The event was graced with the presence of the UAP Vice President for Area B. Arch. Ernesto Tianco, representing our National President Arch. Rosanno Rosal as Guest of Honor.  Arch. Tianco was full of humor as he inspires and encouraged Corinthian architects on the UAP National thrust for the year,
"Protect the PROFESSION, Promote the PRACTICE, SERVE THE MEMBERS".

We are also fortunate that our Regional District Director for B2 Arch. Aurora “Babes” Medina facilitated the Charging of Officers and New Members, and the Oath by our Area B Vice President.  Arch. Medina also provided insights on the Districts Thrust on “Moving Ahead in the Practice of the Profession”.

The biggest surprise of the evening was when our Immediate Past District Director:  Arch. Mark Louie Soriquez announced that UAP Manila Corinthian Chapter is the Model Chapter for District B2 for the Fiscal year 2011-2012, making it our fifth.  This was an unexpected but welcomed surprise for the chapter and a timely gift as we start the fiscal year.

Guided by the legacy of our Past Chapter Presidents, Arch. Ludivico P. Idano once again laid the foundations to an exciting year for all Corinthian architects on his 2nd Term.  The Chapter’s thrust for the year is “Leadership through Passion and Inspiration: Corinthians Legacy to Service Oriented Architecture”.
This was further explained with the 3-fold thrust of the LPI Presidency:
·      Legacy
·      Profession, Professional, Professional Organization, Professional Product
·      Initiative
Legacy was exemplified with the attendance of our Past Chapter Presidents:
·      Arch. Wilfredo Gacutan
·      Arch. Gabbie Cascante
·      Arch. Abe Relleve
·      Arch. Marlou Campaner
·      Arch. Patrick Rodriguez
·      Arch. Pamela Constantino

Initiative, Service and Commitment was honored when our Chapter President Arch. Vhic handed out Plaques and Tokens of Appreciation to selected members.

Corinthian Shares: Trails to Empower Kids - Quirino

Appeal to All Corinthian Architects:

As architects, creativity is a value we are fortunate to have been nurtured growing up. The same value is what we want to encourage all children to possess.

Toys help kids build creativity, self-confidence and responsibility. If you have old toys just gathering dust in your cabinets, please donate them to TREK (Trails to Empower Kids). We will join them for an outreach at Tamsi Primary School and Kakidugen Primary School in Nagtipunan, Quirino this August 24-27.

Check their FB page https://www.facebook.com/TrailsToEmpowerKids for more details. Aside from toys, we can also donate old storybooks or cash so they can buy backpacks, raincoats and boots for the kids.

PM the admin for pledges.

Thank you in advance!

Project Background:

Early this month, our group traveled to Quirino, a landlocked province in the Cagayan
Region. We journeyed for almost 15 hours, 4 hours on foot on a trail filled with mud
that sometimes slope up to 45 degrees.

After crossing 7 stream

s, we reached a community situated on top of a mountain.
There we met Maestro Diego, the lone teacher at Sitio Tamsi, San Dionisio II, in
Nagtipunan, Quirino.

In 2005, Maestro Diego was assigned to conduct a study on putting up a school at
that area. At first he was hesitant, but he did anyway and from then on, he started
teaching until he became a regular teacher in 2009.

Today, he has 70 students ranging from kinder to grade 4. Due to the long trek, he
lives there during weekdays and goes home to his family in Santiago City, Isabela on
weekends.

Tamsi is a part or a group that belongs to an ethnic group called Ilongot. Since the
community is in a remote area and has a growing population, the government
decided to put up a primary school within its community, which is now Tamsi Primary
School.

We asked Maestro Diego why he chose to trek hours every week, live in a
community with no electricity and limited water source and he said, "there is no
greater calling and feeling. Here they call me 'Maestro' an utmost respect that cannot
be bought or be given to any teacher individually."

Please help us support Maestro Diego. On August 26, we will go back to Tamsi
Primary School to deliver the school's much needed assistance. The students are in
dire need of school supplies, books, rain gears and lamps.

Aside from Tamsi Primary School, we will also visit Kakidugen Primary School and
hopefully bring them also help.

TREK Quirino will be the Trails to Empower Kids or TREK's 13th mission.
